Tests and appointments before the planned donor surgery

PHASE

A surgery date for your living kidney donation is determined by the following:

  • Donor timeline for surgery.

  • Recipient timeline for surgery.

  • Operating room availability.

  • Is the donation direct to your recipient.

  • Is the donation through the KPD program.

Phase 3 Timeline

<30 days before surgery

10 days before surgery

48 h before surgery

2 weeks before surgery

  • Appointment with the surgeon.

  • Appointment with anesthesia team (doctor who puts you to sleep).

  • Questionnaire with nurse

  • Bloodwork

  • Repeat crossmatch to make sure you are still a good match with the recipient.

  • COVID-19 swab.

  • Questionnaire with nurse

An agenda listing all your pre-operative appointments will be provided to you approximately two to three weeks prior to your surgery date.
